Undercut haircut and why it is so popular

The undercut is a classic hairstyle for men that you see a lot nowadays. An undercut means that the hair on the sides and the back is short and on top it is longer. You can also choose a fade when going for this hairstyle.

Especially when you are going for a fade, your shorter sides will gradually go over in longer hair on the top. In some cases men choose a part and you can even choose a hard part, which means they shave some hair away to accentuate the part.

I personally would not recommend doing this, because you should not mess with your hairline.

Haircut with clippers

This hairstyle can be achieved with clippers. That is one of the reasons why the undercut is such a popular haircut. Some even do it themselves, but it definitely requires some skill to master a good undercut, especially with a good-looking fade.

There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube that show you how to achieve an undercut hairstyle yourself, but I would leave it to the professionals and support your local barber!

One of the reasons that the undercut became such a popular hairstyle for men, is because of the Netflix show Peaky Blinders. Almost all the men have some version of the undercut.

The show also clearly shows the many variaties you can go for when choosing a undercut style. You can go for a side-part, no part or a slicker hairstyle.

Face shape and undercut styles

The undercut hairstyle for men is popular, but you have to be sure it fits your face shape. When you have a square or oblong face shape then an undercut works great for you. It will soften the harder features of these face shapes.

When you have a round face, the undercut hairstyles will only accentuate the roundness of your face. A good barber will be able to give you a semi-undercut hairstyle that still works for your face shape.

Undercut with longer hair

There are many ways to style an undercut hairstyle. One of them is growing out the hair on top until you nice long hair.

Your partner might like this as well, because they can run their hands through your hair before you style it or just do that before bed, then it does not matter how it looks anymore.

When your hair is longer, you can go for a side-part, but that is more formal and professional. If you want it a bit more playful or more bad ass, you can go for a slick-back look.

That will look more interesting and you will enhance your manliness and een look a bit dangerous like the guys in Peaky Blinders. Especially in business you will definitely show you are full of confidence and hard to mess with.

Medium length undercut

Most men will choose a medium long undercut, so it will be about 5-7 centimeters long on top. That why you can style your hair up. This length is great for quiffs or slightly messier hairstyles, like the fauw hawk.

A fauw hawk means that the hair is styled to the front and up a bit. In the front the hair comes together in a point a bit. Products that provide great texture are best for these hairstyles.

You can start with a sea salt spray to get some more volume and texture. Apply it in damp hair and blow-dry your hair into the desired shape. Afterwards you can use some finishing spray to keep it in place.
